About Net1 Talk

What is Net1 Talk?

Net1 Talk is our alternative for the traditional land line. It uses VOIP.

What is VOIP?

VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) is a technology that allows voice to be sent over the internet using a broadband internet connection.

How does it work?

Voice is converted by a device from an analogue signal to a digital signal. It is then compressed and sent over the Internet (either your wireless or fibre service) where it will be uncompressed, converted back to an analogue signal for the remaining distance over a traditional circuit switch.

What do I need for the service?

If you’re on our fibre service, all you need to do is plug in your phone into the ‘Phone 1’ port on the router we’ve provided. This port is pre-programmed if our Talk service was selected at sign up.

If you are on our wireless service, a ‘voice adapter’ will be needed. These are available in our shop. This adapter plugs into your router and will be fully programmed before delivery.

Can Net1 issue new numbers?

We can issue brand new numbers suitable to your geographic location.

What if I want to use my old number?

We can provide a service called porting, which is where your old number is transferred into our service. However, before this can happen, you must test our service for at least 100 minutes, to make sure you are happy with the service.

There is a €6 fee to transfer your number from another provider

If you’re happy with the service, then please fill this form, and send it into porting@net1.ie
